Manuel Masalva Contracts Dangerous Bacterial Infection; DOH Tells People Not To Panic

Manuel Masalva falls into a coma after PH visit, and DOH has this reminder for the people.

The Department of Health reminded the people that there’s no need to panic after Manuel Masalva contracted a dangerous bacterial infection.

The actor from the American TV series “Narcos: Mexico,” Manuel Masalva has been placed in a medically induced coma due to an “aggressive bacterial infection.” This happened a few days after his vacation in the Philippines.

He has remained in critical but stable condition while hospitalized in Dubai. His condition was confirmed by his manager, Jaime Jaramillo Espinosa to the LA Times.

Masalva arrived in Dubai last March 18 after visiting the Philippines, and after two days in Dubai, he started feeling some discomfort and pain internally, which got worse day by day.

A bacterial infection was discovered, and he underwent an emergency surgery. It reached his lungs, which required him to be put into a medically induced coma.

“The doctors were able to identify the type of bacteria and administer the appropriate antibiotic he needs. On the other hand, his respirator was lowered to 80%, which means that his lungs are reacting,” Espinosa noted.

The actor visited Palawan. A fundraiser for his medical expenses was launched, and his family has so far earned over MXN1.068 million or Php 2.9 million.

This incident raised concern among the locals, and speaking to TeleRadyo Serbisyo, Department of Health (DOH) spokesman Albert Domingo shared that according to his publicist, the bacteria came from the Philippines, but it was not specified.

The spokesperson added that there’s no need to panic. Masalva is responding to antibiotics and noted that the actor could have contracted the bacteria from food poisoning or swimming in the ocean with an open wound.
